Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify is easiest to judge at the store connection: what syncs from Shopify, how consent travels, and which tracking depends on your privacy settings. Test that connection before you compare prices.
We set up and migrate Klaviyo accounts, so we know that side best. Where Omnisend’s own pages could not be read, this guide says so and gives you the check to run instead. It is a Klaviyo vs Omnisend comparison for owners who are about to connect a store, not a price list.
How does Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify differ?
Less in the feature grid than in what happens inside your store: how much order history arrives, how subscribers are added, and which browse events are tracked. Both tools install as Shopify apps and cover the same core flows, so the Klaviyo vs Omnisend choice rests on the connection.
On Shopify’s App Store, as of November 2026, Klaviyo shows a 4.7 rating from 3,432 reviews and Omnisend 4.7 from 3,201. Both listings name abandoned cart, browse abandonment, back-in-stock and price drop emails, and both show Shopify Flow as a compatible app. Ratings that close tell you little about Klaviyo vs Omnisend, so look at the connection.

How does Klaviyo work with Shopify?
It connects through a Shopify app, then pulls customers, orders and products into Klaviyo profiles and events, and can send data back. You install it from Klaviyo’s Integrations tab, enter your mystore.myshopify.com address and approve the permissions, according to Klaviyo’s Shopify setup guide.
The first sync is big. Klaviyo’s Shopify data reference says it syncs the last 90 days of orders and customers first, then older data covering up to 10 years by default. Depending on store size that takes from a few minutes to several days, and after that new data syncs in real time.
The same page lists 15 events the integration and onsite tracking can record:
- Orders: Checkout Started, Placed Order, Ordered Product, Fulfilled Order, Fulfilled Partial Order, Cancelled Order and Refunded Order.
- Delivery: Confirmed Shipment, Delivered Shipment and Marked Out for Delivery, only when Shopify provides them for your carrier.
- Browsing: Active on Site, Viewed Product, Viewed Collection, Submitted Search and Added to Cart.
Checkout Started carries the cart items and a checkout link, so an abandoned cart email can rebuild the cart on a new device. That one event is what a checkout-based abandoned cart flow depends on. Klaviyo’s reference says a Checkout Started event is recorded once Shopify sends checkout details with a valid email address or phone number, so a shopper who never types either leaves nothing to recover. Both one-page and multi-page checkout are supported, and customized checkouts may need the shopper to reach the next step first.
To see these in your account, open Analytics, then Metrics, and filter by the Shopify integration. Events with a Shopify icon come from the integration or a Shopify pixel; those with a gear icon come from Klaviyo’s own snippet. Two metrics can share a name, such as Viewed Product, so check the source before building a flow on one.
Does Omnisend integrate with Shopify?
Yes. Omnisend is a Shopify app with its own App Store listing, and its Shopify page describes pre-built automation workflows, segment suggestions and form templates for Shopify stores.
For Omnisend vs Klaviyo for Shopify, the Omnisend half is the thin one. What we could not do is read Omnisend’s help-center articles on the Shopify sync: they returned errors from our research environment on November 4, 2026. So we do not state how far back its first sync goes, which browse events it records or what it writes back to Shopify. Those are the rows to fill in during a trial of Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify.
Two Omnisend pages even disagree on one number, which is a good reason to test rather than trust a summary. Its Shopify listing mentions 250+ integrations, while its Shopify page says 330+ pre-built integrations, both as of November 2026. Klaviyo’s listing says 350+.
One more Klaviyo vs Omnisend difference sits on the listings. Klaviyo shows 11 languages and lists Customer accounts under apps it works with; Omnisend’s listing shows English and lists Checkout and Shopify Flow. If you sell in several languages, check that first.
How do Shopify subscribers sync to your email list?
Through the “accepts marketing” box at checkout and Shopify’s sign-up forms. In Klaviyo, you choose which list receives them, and that list’s opt-in setting still applies, so a double opt-in list sends a confirmation email first.
Klaviyo’s subscriber sync guide has details that surprise owners:
- New contacts: subscribed when they give an email and tick the box at checkout.
- Existing Shopify contacts: they must place an order to be subscribed.
- Unsubscribes: a newer Shopify unsubscribe only reaches Klaviyo if “Sync unsubscribes to Klaviyo” is turned on.
- Historical sync: subscribers are added without double opt-in emails and without starting a welcome flow.
For Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify, Shopify’s own subscriber guide sets the ground rule for either tool: send promotional email only to customers who agreed, and never add a purchased list. Whatever Omnisend does here, ask it the same four questions. They are the quickest way to compare Omnisend vs Klaviyo for Shopify on consent.
Example: an invented store has 1,200 existing contacts and takes 40 orders next month. After the connection, none of the 1,200 joins the list until they order. If 12 of the 40 orders tick the box, the list grows by 12, not by 1,200, so the first month’s list looks small.
Which tracking depends on your Shopify privacy settings?
The browse events. Klaviyo’s onsite tracking guide lists 5 events: Active on Site and Viewed Product through its app embed, and Viewed Collection, Submitted Search and Added to Cart through a Shopify pixel.
Three conditions can silence them:
- The app embed must be on in your theme. A new theme needs it turned on again, and an embed can be tied to only 1 Shopify store.
- “Track behavioral events” must be ticked in the integration settings for the three Shopify-pixel events.
- Shopify Network Intelligence must be on in Customer privacy, or Shopify may send those events without the shopper’s identity and flows that use them may not fire, according to Klaviyo’s setup guide. Shopify describes the setting in its privacy settings help.
For visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, Klaviyo says it may not track onsite events without consent, depending on your privacy settings. Any tool will face the same law, so ask Omnisend the same question in your Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify test.
What can go wrong when you connect either one?
Three settings cause most of the damage, and Klaviyo’s setup guide names all of them. Check them on any platform you install, because the same traps apply to Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify alike.
- A second email app left connected. Klaviyo warns that a prior email integration can cause double opt-in emails to existing subscribers.
- “All profiles” in the outbound sync. It creates a Shopify customer for every Klaviyo profile, including imports and other integrations, even people who never visited your store. Example: an import of 5,000 newsletter profiles can create up to 5,000 new Shopify customers. “Profiles that already exist in Shopify” only updates existing customers.
- Store URLs in the product catalog. Klaviyo fills the catalog with your myshopify.com address, so links in product blocks point there until support changes it.
Add the missing-tracking traps from the section above and the pre-flight list reaches 7 items: the second app, the outbound sync, the catalog URL, the app embed, the behavioral events box, Network Intelligence and the unsubscribe sync.
Sending setup matters too. A wrong domain setup lands emails in spam on either tool, so check it with our email deliverability service or on your own before the first send.
How do you test Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify in a trial?
Run the same 7 checks on both tools, with a test list and a test customer, and write down what each tool does. A free plan or trial is enough for all of them.

In Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify, the consent check is the one to start with. Example: an invented store places 2 test orders from 2 different test email addresses. The first ticks the marketing box, the second does not. You expect 1 subscriber on the list and 1 order-only profile. If both contacts land on the marketing list, or neither does, fix the setup before real customers see it.
In our own work connecting stores, this two-order test finds more problems than any feature review, because it exercises the checkout box, the list choice and the opt-in rule in one pass.
Then work down the figure, because a Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify trial is only useful if both tools get the same tests: count the customers after the first sync, start and abandon a checkout, view a product while logged in as a test shopper, opt out in Shopify and see whether the tool follows. Give each tool the same 14 days, so you compare like with like.
Write each result in a simple table with one row per check and two columns, one per tool. A blank cell means you could not confirm the behavior, and a blank cell on a core row, such as checkout events or consent, is a reason to ask the vendor in writing before you commit.
Which one should your Shopify store pick?
The one whose connection passes your 7 checks with the least work, which is the practical answer to Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify. If you want documented detail on 15 Shopify events, two-way profile sync and 11 languages, Klaviyo is the safer bet. If Omnisend passes every row in your trial, its simpler setup may suit a small team.

Be wary of picking on price alone, and keep in mind that Klaviyo is the platform we know and set up. In Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify, a tool that miscounts consent or misses checkout events costs more in lost recovery emails than the plan difference saves.
