Shopify vs WooCommerce SEO: what each platform lets you control
Is Shopify good for SEO? Yes, and so is WooCommerce: both platforms can rank. This comparison shows what you control on Shopify…
Web development · Every platform
Above Clicks started with code: our web development covers Shopify, WordPress, WooCommerce, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Magento and BigCommerce, plus custom builds in PHP, Laravel, Next.js, React and Node.js. Our founder, Kashif Khan, has been a WordPress and PHP developer since November 2021. AI-assisted development lets a small team ship what used to need a large one, and every change is still scoped, reviewed, tested and documented the way a software company would do it.

Free web development audit
Three fields and you’re done. The PDF report shows what we found in your web development setup, and the order we’d fix it in. It covers the problems we see most often:
Your PDF report on your web development setup comes by email. If you want to discuss going ahead after reading it, we’ll set up a video meeting. We use your details only for this audit.
Fit
Not the right fit for native mobile apps, games or large enterprise systems with their own in-house engineering teams. We build websites, storefronts, web apps and the integrations around them.
Problems we fix
A store on a site builder that can’t grow with it, or a five-page brochure site on a stack that needs a developer for every word change.
The launch looks good, but redirects, tracking, structured data and page speed were never part of the brief, so rankings and ad results drop.
No documentation, no version control and no staging site, so every future change is slow and risky.
Every small feature becomes another subscription and another script on every page, until the site is slow and fragile.
A custom web app where a well-configured platform would do the same job for a fraction of the cost and upkeep, because custom web development bills more hours.
The developer ships, the marketer finds problems later, and the owner ends up arbitrating between them.

How we work
Most web development goes wrong before the first line of code, when the platform is chosen. Good website development starts there, and so do we. A store that sells hundreds of products online usually belongs on Shopify or WooCommerce. A content-heavy business site with a blog and lead forms usually belongs on WordPress. A design-led marketing site that the team wants to edit visually may be better on Webflow. A small business that already runs well on Wix or Squarespace often needs improvements, not a rebuild. And a product that no platform handles well is where custom development in Next.js, React or Node.js earns its cost.
We say how deep our experience goes on each platform, because it isn’t the same everywhere. WordPress, WooCommerce, page builders such as Elementor and Divi, SEO plugins such as Yoast, Rank Math and All in One SEO, hosting, cPanel, Cloudflare and Core Web Vitals work are where Kashif started and spent the most years. Shopify is where most of our store clients are. Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Magento and BigCommerce are platforms we have worked on for clients, in smaller volume. Custom PHP and Laravel are real experience too, with the honest caveat below.
Our Shopify work has its own hub: Shopify development covers theme customization, store setup, migrations to Shopify, speed and care plans. WordPress has two pages: WordPress development for themes, page builders, plugins, speed and maintenance, and custom WordPress development for themes built from scratch, custom plugins, custom post types, Advanced Custom Fields builds and headless WordPress. Stores on WordPress have WooCommerce development.
Custom code is where AI-assisted web development changed what a small team can deliver. We build Next.js storefronts and web apps, React frontends and admin tools, and Node.js APIs and integrations with modern AI coding tools. The AI writes drafts quickly; a developer decides the architecture, reads every change, writes tests for the parts that matter and owns the result. This website is an example: a custom WordPress theme with its own editor blocks and a custom plugin for content control, built that way.
For site builders, the job is usually to get more out of the platform you already pay for. Our Webflow development, Wix development and Squarespace development pages explain what each one allows: Webflow’s CMS, interactions and React code components; Wix’s Velo and JavaScript SDK; Squarespace’s code injection and code blocks on the plans that include them. Each page also says honestly when a site has outgrown the builder.
Custom PHP and Laravel deserve a plain statement. Kashif has written custom PHP since his first developer job and has built Laravel applications, and some of that Laravel work was never finished or launched. So we take Laravel work in a focused scope: maintaining and extending an existing Laravel or plain PHP application, building a small admin tool or API, upgrading PHP versions, and moving business logic out of fragile scripts. Laravel releases a major version every year and gives each one 18 months of bug fixes and two years of security fixes, according to its release notes, so upgrade planning is part of every Laravel job we accept.
Magento and BigCommerce stores mostly come to us for two things: keeping an existing store safe and working, and moving away when the upkeep costs more than it returns. Our Magento development and BigCommerce support page covers both, including Adobe’s support dates for each Magento 2.4 release line, which decide how urgent an upgrade or a migration really is.
Hosting and speed are part of web development, not an extra, and every web developer on a project should own them. We have set up and maintained hosting, cPanel, DNS, SSL and Cloudflare for client sites for years, and we test Core Web Vitals against the thresholds Google publishes on web.dev: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint within 200 milliseconds and Cumulative Layout Shift below 0.1. Our site speed service goes deeper.
Marketing is built into our web development services because we run marketing too. Every launch includes redirects from old URLs, analytics and ad pixels, structured data, Search Console and an XML sitemap, and pages that load fast on phones. The same people will later use that site for ads and SEO, so they build it to be used, not just to be handed over.
Ownership is simple: you own the code, the content and the accounts. Work lives in version control, changes are tested on a staging copy before they reach the live site, and every project ends with documentation that another developer could pick up. If you want ongoing help, it continues as a monthly care plan; if you don’t, the handover means you aren’t locked in.
Choosing between building and buying is part of the advice, and the cheapest web development is often the code you never have to write. A paid plugin, a Shopify app or a platform setting often solves the problem better than custom code, because someone else maintains it. We recommend custom web development when the off-the-shelf options don’t fit, cost more over time than a small build, or slow the site down, and we put that comparison in writing before you decide.

Platforms
Every platform has its own page with what we build, how we test it and where its limits are.
Themes, store setup, migrations, speed, custom features and care plans for Shopify and Shopify Plus.
Themes, Elementor and Divi builds, plugins, SEO plugins, speed, security and monthly maintenance.
Themes from scratch, custom plugins and blocks, custom post types, ACF builds and headless WordPress.
WooCommerce features, fixes, care, and an honest stay-or-move review.
Headless storefronts on Shopify’s Storefront API, fast marketing sites and custom web apps.
Custom frontends, dashboards, admin tools and components embedded in existing sites.
APIs, webhooks, integrations, background jobs and the backends behind custom apps.
Webflow builds, CMS structure, interactions, code components and SEO settings.
Wix and Wix Studio customization with Velo and the JavaScript SDK, speed and SEO, or a planned move.
Squarespace customization with CSS, code blocks and code injection, plus SEO and integrations.
Maintenance, security patches and upgrades, and migrations away when the upkeep no longer pays.
Configurators, checkout logic, integrations and private apps for Shopify and WooCommerce stores.
How we use AI here
AI coding tools write components, migrations and tests quickly, so the budget goes to the parts that need judgment.
Inherited themes, plugins and old PHP get explained and mapped before we change them, which makes takeovers safer.
The time saved goes into tests, accessibility checks and speed measurements that small projects usually skip.
Where it doesn’t: architecture, security decisions, anything that touches payments or customer data, and the final review of every change. A developer reads and approves the code before it ships, and we never paste your credentials or customer data into an AI tool.
What’s included
Which platform fits, what it costs to run and maintain, and what we’d avoid, before any web development starts.
What will be built, how it will be edited, how it will be tracked, and what “done” means.
Changes built and tested away from the live site, with every change recorded.
Redirects, structured data, sitemaps, metadata and Search Console set up before launch.
GA4, ad pixels and conversion events tested on every release.
Core Web Vitals, image and script loading, keyboard and contrast checks.
How it works, where it lives and how to edit it, written for your team or the next developer.
Updates, backups, monitoring and small changes each month, if you want them.

How we run it
In our web development, the platform decision comes first, then a written scope. Typical timing: the scope within 2 workdays, the build in 2 to 4 weeks depending on size, then testing, launch and handover in the final week.
Step 1
We review what you have, what you need and what it will cost to run, and recommend a platform.
Step 2
A written scope: features, editing, tracking, SEO, timeline and the definition of done.
Step 3
Built on staging with version control, reviewed, then tested on real devices.
Step 4
Redirects, tracking and speed checked at launch, documentation handed over.

Shopify, WordPress, WooCommerce, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Magento and BigCommerce, plus custom code in PHP, Laravel, Next.js, React and Node.js. Each platform has its own page with what we build on it.
No, and we say so. WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify are our deepest; Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Magento and BigCommerce are smaller in volume; Laravel work is taken in a focused scope.
AI coding tools draft code, tests and documentation quickly. A web developer decides the architecture, reviews every change and owns the result, and no credentials or customer data go into AI tools.
It depends on what the site has to do, who edits it and what you can spend on upkeep. We compare two or three options for your case in writing and recommend one.
E-commerce is most of our work, but we also build and maintain sites for service businesses that run on enquiries, such as healthcare, education and local services.
You do. Code, content, domains and platform accounts stay in your name, and every project ends with documentation and a handover.
Yes. We start with an audit of the code, plugins or apps, hosting and tracking, document what we find and fix the riskiest problems first.
By project, from a written scope, or monthly through a care plan for ongoing work. We quote after seeing the site and the request.
No native mobile apps. Our website development covers sites, storefronts, web apps and APIs, and a web app can work well on phones without an app store.
