Shopify vs WooCommerce SEO: what each platform lets you control
Is Shopify good for SEO? Yes, and so is WooCommerce: both platforms can rank. This comparison shows what you control on Shopify…
Custom solutions · Shopify apps
Sometimes no app in the Shopify App Store does what your store needs, or five apps each do half. We build custom Shopify apps for a single store: admin tools, Shopify Functions for discount and checkout rules, checkout extensions, and integrations with the systems you already run. Our founder started as a developer, and we build with modern AI-assisted development tools, with the specs, version control, testing and handover you’d expect from a professional software team.

Free Shopify app scoping call
Three fields and you are done. We map the workflow for your custom Shopify apps, name the Shopify APIs they need, and send a fixed-scope plan for the custom Shopify apps build.
Your PDF report comes by email. If you want to discuss going ahead after reading it, we’ll set up a video meeting. We use your details only for this audit.
Fit
Not the right fit if a well-reviewed public app already does the job at a fair price. We’ll tell you so: a maintained public app is often cheaper than custom code over the years.
Problems we fix
Several subscriptions, overlapping scripts and settings in five places, each app covering part of one workflow.
Tiered B2B pricing, gift-with-purchase logic, delivery rules by postcode, or bundles that must reserve stock correctly.
Staff copy order details into spreadsheets, tag customers by hand or rebuild the same report every Monday.
Orders, stock and customers keyed into the ERP, warehouse or CRM by hand, with errors and delays.
Scripts and workarounds from older Shopify setups that break with updates or no longer run.
Reports Shopify doesn’t offer, such as margin by product after discounts and returns.

How we build
Every project starts with a written spec: what the app does, who uses it, what data it reads and writes, what happens when something fails, and how we’ll know it works. It comes with a fixed quote or a clear estimate, and you approve it before any code is written. Most disagreements in software come from unwritten assumptions; the spec removes them.
Next we choose the right building block for your custom Shopify apps. Shopify’s app distribution rules matter here: an app built for one store uses custom distribution, needs no App Store review and can’t bill through Shopify’s app billing, while Shopify says apps created directly in the admin are no longer available for new apps. Logic that must run inside Shopify, such as discounts, payment and delivery customizations or cart validation, belongs in Shopify Functions; changes to the checkout page use checkout UI extensions.
Then we build the custom Shopify app, with AI-assisted development and a developer responsible for every line. Modern AI coding tools make it realistic to build things that used to need a large team, faster and for less. They also write confident, wrong code if nobody checks it. So every change is read, tested and reviewed before it’s merged, the same as if a person had typed it. That combination is why we can say yes to most custom requests and still stand behind the result.
We ship like a software company. The code lives in version control (your repository, or ours with access for you); there’s a development store or staging setup for testing; critical paths have automated tests; API keys and passwords stay out of the code; and the app requests only the API access scopes it needs. Shopify’s API rate limits and webhooks are handled properly, so the app keeps working on your busiest day.
Launching custom Shopify apps is planned, not hoped for: a test on the real store at a quiet time, a way to switch the feature off, and monitoring for errors after release. You get documentation in plain English (what the app does, how to use it, how it’s deployed) and ownership of the code. Nothing is locked to us.
After launch, custom Shopify apps need care. Shopify releases new API versions on a schedule and retires old ones, so we keep custom apps current as part of a care plan or a small yearly maintenance agreement. Because we also run marketing, we build with tracking and reporting in mind from day one. Shopify releases new API versions on a quarterly schedule, and Shopify CLI blocks deploys that target versions older than 12 months, so we keep custom code on a supported version. Speed is judged against Google’s Core Web Vitals thresholds: main content within 2.5 seconds, a response to input within 200 milliseconds and layout shift of 0.1 or less.

How we use AI here
AI coding tools write and refactor code under a developer’s direction, which makes custom work affordable for single stores.
AI helps write test cases and first drafts of documentation; a developer checks they test and describe the real behaviour.
Where it doesn’t help: deciding what to build, judging security and edge cases, and taking responsibility for the release. Those stay with a developer, and every AI-written change is reviewed before it ships.
What’s included
What the app does, data, failure handling and acceptance tests, approved before coding.
Custom app, Shopify Functions, checkout or theme extensions, chosen for the job.
AI-assisted development, with every change reviewed and tested by a developer.
A development store or staging setup and automated tests on critical paths.
Minimal API scopes, keys and passwords kept out of code, webhooks verified.
Release at a quiet time, a switch-off option and error monitoring.
Plain-English docs and the code in a repository you own.

How we run it
Agree it in writing, build it in steps, ship it carefully. Typical timing: the scope within 2 workdays, the build in 2 to 4 weeks depending on size, then testing, launch and handover in the final week.
Step 1
Requirements, data, edge cases and acceptance tests written and approved.
Step 2
Developed in small steps on a development store, each one reviewed.
Step 3
Automated and manual tests against the spec, then a test on your store.
Step 4
Released with monitoring, documented, code handed over.

By industry
Jewelry stores ask for ring-size and engraving workflows, made-to-order tracking and appointment booking tied to products.
Fashion brands need bundle and gift rules, pre-order handling and integrations with warehouses and returns tools.
High-ticket stores need quote requests, deposits, hold-for-buyer workflows and private pricing for trade clients.

FAQ

An app built for one store (or one organization’s stores) rather than for the App Store. Shopify describes it as an app that you or a developer build exclusively for your store, to add admin features, use your store data through Shopify’s APIs or extend your store to other platforms.
Only when no public app fits. Public apps spread development costs across many stores. A custom app makes sense for unusual rules, deep integrations or replacing several apps that together don’t work.
Apps with custom distribution, built for a single store, don’t go through App Store review. They still have to follow Shopify’s terms and, for checkout, Shopify’s design requirements.
We use AI coding tools for much of the writing and refactoring, directed by a developer. Every change is read, tested and reviewed before it ships. It’s faster and cheaper, without lowering the standard.
You do. The code lives in a repository you own or can take over, with documentation, so another developer could maintain it.
Usually, yes. Logic that used to live in older checkout customizations is now built with Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions. We map what exists, then rebuild it on the supported tools.
Shopify releases API versions on a schedule and retires old ones. We keep your app on a supported version through a small maintenance agreement or a care plan.
We focus on apps for specific stores. If you want a public app, we can build it, but plan for App Store review, billing, support and ongoing updates as a product of its own.
