Shopify CRO for a US home-goods store: conversion rate from 1.59% to 2.86%

Home organization products and soft furnishings, US. Before: July 1–30, 2026 · changes: July 31–August 14 · after: August 15–September 13, 2026 (30 complete days each, USD).

For a US home-goods Shopify store, we improved mobile product pages, rebuilt the cart drawer, removed unused app code and simplified checkout settings during July 31–August 14, 2026. Comparing the 30 days before the work with August 15–September 13, conversion rate increased from 1.59% to 2.86%, add-to-cart rate from 5.04% to 7.53%, and net revenue per session reached $2.60.

The product pages are clearer, the cart is easier to use on mobile, and customers can see the delivery information before checkout. We now have a much clearer view of how the store is converting.

What we changed

  • Product pages: dimensions, material details, delivery estimates and the returns policy moved closer to the purchase controls; better variant selection and a sticky Add to cart button on phones.
  • Cart drawer: reliable quantity editing and item removal, the subtotal and shipping policy easy to find, and a clear place for the checkout button on smaller screens.
  • App cleanup: three unused storefront apps removed with their leftover theme snippets, a duplicate promotional overlay gone, and nonessential widgets deferred away from the first product view.
  • Checkout: no account login required, eligible accelerated payment options switched on, and the same shipping, delivery and returns information on the product page, in the cart and in checkout settings.

The Shopify conversion rate rose 80.2%, a gain of 1.27 percentage points. Add-to-cart rate rose 49.4% and net revenue per session 87.1%, while sessions rose 2.5%; the percentages use the counts before rounding. Both conversion reports use the same Online Store scope, US session-country filter, human-traffic filter and open-funnel setting. This is a sequential before-and-after comparison: it describes the change over those periods, not an isolated split-test lift. Both windows sit before Shopify’s September 2026 session-measurement change. Net sales exclude shipping and taxes: $63,704.81 gross sales minus $3,427.16 in discounts and $1,961.23 in sales reversals gives $58,316.42, or $2.60 across 22,391 sessions.

How we measure

How we prove a change worked, before we call it a win.

A Shopify conversion rate moves with sales, emails and new ads as much as with design. So every change is dated, and we read it against a fixed window on each side.

  1. 14 days before: conversion, add-to-cart and checkout rate, by device
  2. Change goes live, date logged
  3. 14 days after: the same numbers, the same split
  • Tracking checked first

We confirm the add-to-cart and purchase events still fire after each release, or the numbers mean nothing. Our checkout tracking work covers this.

  • Split by device

Phones and desktops are read apart, because a change that helps on a 390 px screen can do nothing on a laptop.

  • Sales and launches flagged

A sale, an email send or a new ad campaign inside either window is written next to the result, since it can skew a before-and-after reading.

  • A/B test when traffic allows

Bigger changes go into a split test when the store has enough orders to read one in a few weeks; smaller fixes go live and are watched.

What’s included

What Shopify CRO includes, stage by stage.

Five stages, in the order a shopper meets them. Each card names the number it’s meant to move.

  1. Product page

    Moves Add-to-cart rate

    • A variant picker that shows sold-out sizes and switches the image
    • Delivery date, returns and payment options next to the button
    • Reviews where shoppers look for them
  2. Cart drawer

    Moves Checkout rate

    • Free-shipping progress at a threshold that suits your order value
    • One relevant add-on, not a carousel
    • Delivery estimate and express payment buttons
  3. Checkout

    Moves Completed checkouts

    • Branding, express payments and payment order set up
    • Checkout extensions for trust messages and offers on Shopify Plus
    • Discounts on Shopify’s own features and Functions
  4. Speed and apps

    Moves Every step, on phones

    • Unused app scripts removed and apps rebuilt as theme sections
    • Images sized, and lazy-loaded below the fold
    • Core Web Vitals checked per template
  5. Measurement

    Moves Confidence in the result

    • Purchase events checked after each release
    • A dated log of every change
    • Before-and-after by device, A/B tests where traffic allows

Everything is built in a copy of your live theme and previewed on 3 phone sizes and 2 desktop browsers before it goes live.

Read the transcript
  1. What we check first in Shopify CRO Five checks on the product page, cart and checkout.
  2. 1. What do the apps cost in speed? Pop-ups, badges, timers and review widgets each add scripts that slow product pages on phones. (Example store.)
  3. 2. Does the cart drawer sell anything? Items and a checkout button, but no shipping threshold, delivery date or relevant add-on. (Example cart drawer.)
  4. 3. Does the variant picker behave? Sold-out sizes look selectable, swatches don’t change the image and the price doesn’t update. (Example product page.)
  5. 4. Are trust details near the button? Returns, delivery times and payment options sitting in the footer instead of by add-to-cart. (Example product page.)
  6. 5. Is checkout configured? Express payments, address autocomplete and checkout branding left on defaults. (Example checkout.)
  7. Then we fix them, in that order. Want this checked on your store? The free growth audit covers all five, in writing.

How we work

How our Shopify CRO work runs in the theme.

Shopify CRO starts with Shopify’s own numbers. Its behaviour reports show sessions, added to cart, reached checkout and conversion, so we split those by device and landing page and compare them with GA4. Then we read the theme code and the app list, because on most stores the problems sit in what the theme loads and how it was set up.

Product pages come first, because that’s where most shoppers decide. The changes are theme edits in Liquid and JavaScript, built as sections and blocks you can still edit in the theme editor. The cart drawer comes next: we build its features in the theme where we can and use an app only when it does something the theme can’t, since every app adds code to every page.

Speed matters most on phones. We remove scripts that stayed behind after an app was uninstalled, size images and check each template against Google’s Core Web Vitals: main content within 2.5 seconds, a response to taps within 200 milliseconds and layout shift of 0.1 or less.

The checkout follows Shopify’s rules. All stores can set checkout branding, express buttons such as Shop Pay and the order of payment methods. On Shopify Plus, checkout UI extensions add content inside the information, shipping and payment steps, and Shopify Functions run custom discount logic inside Shopify instead of through theme scripts. We say which ideas your plan allows before anything is built.

Kashif and the team build Shopify themes, custom apps and checkout tracking, so the people who find a problem are the people who write the fix. If you want a full ranked list across every page type before any build, our CRO audit covers it, and conversion rate optimization covers stores on other platforms.

Fit

Who it’s for

  • Shopify stores with a theme slowed down by apps that each promised more sales
  • Brands whose Shopify conversion rate on phones is far below desktop
  • Stores on Shopify Plus that haven’t used checkout extensions yet
  • Teams that want changes built and measured, not just a list of ideas

Not the right fit if the store isn’t on Shopify. For WooCommerce or another platform, our conversion rate optimization service covers the same work.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Can’t find yours? Ask on WhatsApp or by email and we’ll answer it.

What is Shopify CRO?

It’s conversion rate optimization done on a Shopify store: changes to product pages, the cart, speed and checkout settings that help more visitors buy, measured on real orders.

Is the Shopify CRO audit really free?

Yes. The 20 checks, the PDF report and the video meeting cost nothing and come with no obligation. You pay only if you then ask us to build the fixes, at a fixed price agreed first.

What is a good Shopify conversion rate?

It depends on your products, prices, traffic sources and devices, so one benchmark misleads. Comparing your own store by device and channel over time tells you far more.

Can you change the Shopify checkout?

Partly. Every store can set branding, express payments and payment order. On Shopify Plus, checkout UI extensions add content inside the checkout steps. We say which options apply before building.

Do we need more apps to improve conversion?

Usually fewer. Many conversion apps add scripts that slow the store down. We build what we can in the theme and keep only the apps that do something it can’t.

Will changes break our theme?

No change touches the live theme until it’s ready. We work on a copy, test it on phones and desktops, and keep your current theme as a backup you can switch back to.

Do you run A/B tests on Shopify?

Yes, when traffic is enough to read a result in a sensible time. For smaller stores we make the clear fixes and compare the 14 days before and after, by device.
