What is Spark Ads (TikTok)?

How do Spark Ads work?

You pick a TikTok account as the ad’s identity, then pull an existing post into TikTok Ads Manager or push a new one to that account. Viewers see a normal TikTok post with a call to action added.

TikTok’s creation guide (updated June 2026) lists 3 ways to source the post: a linked account such as your brand’s own, a post code from a creator, or a new post pushed to an account authorized through Business Center. The About Spark Ads page lists 8 auction objectives, Sales and Traffic among them, plus 3 with Reach & Frequency buying.

Spark Ads compared with non-Spark Ads: in Spark Ads the profile photo and nickname open the poster's profile, viewers can follow and open the sound, and engagement stays on the organic post; in non-Spark Ads those clicks go to the landing page

The difference shows in the clicks. On a Spark Ad, tapping the profile photo opens the poster’s profile and the “+” follows the account. On a non-Spark ad, those taps go to your landing page. Spark Ads reports also count paid likes, shares, comments and followers within 1 day of a person seeing the ad. A creator’s post can keep earning followers and comments after the campaign ends, because the engagement stays on it.

What is a Spark Ads code?

A post code a creator makes in the TikTok app (the post’s menu, Ad settings, Generate) and sends you, so you can run that post as an ad for the period they picked.

Spark Ads code periods: a post code from the TikTok app lasts 7, 30, 60 or 365 days and can be extended before it expires; Content Suite requests default to 365 days; account authorization in Business Center lasts until cancelled

TikTok’s Ads Manager guide gives creators 4 periods: 7, 30, 60 or 365 days. The period can only be extended before the code expires. Requests sent through Content Suite default to 365 days, and an account linked through Business Center stays authorized until the owner or admin cancels it. In Ads Manager you can paste up to 20 Spark Ads codes at a time.

The end date is where launches go wrong. Take a hypothetical swimwear store: on 1 November a creator sends a 30-day code, which ends on 1 December. The brand schedules the ad until 15 December, and TikTok rejects it with error 900010, because the authorization ends before the ad does. Asking for a 60-day code, which runs to 31 December, or an extension before 1 December fixes it.

Which posts can’t be sparked?

Story videos, duet carousels, posts that tag multiple posts, and private, deleted or guideline-breaking posts all fail, according to TikTok’s code error list.

Posts that fail as Spark Ads: story videos, duet carousels, posts that tag multiple posts, private, deleted or guideline-breaking posts, expired codes and videos over 10 minutes

The Spark Ads specs add a few limits: videos up to 10 minutes, up to 10,000 Spark Ads per Ads Manager account, and no caption edits once a post is authorized. A private video becomes public once a campaign uses it. Since the caption is locked, agree it with the creator before they generate the code, and check the hook rate of their organic post before you put budget behind it.

How is it different from Meta partnership ads?

Both run a creator’s post as an ad with permission, but a Spark Ads code expires after 7 to 365 days, while Meta’s partnership ad code works for up to 2 partners at a time.

On Meta the same idea is called partnership ads, and Meta’s code page says the ad header can feature one or both accounts. On TikTok the ad’s name and text come from the chosen post and can’t be edited in Ads Manager. In both cases, new creator posts are one of the cheapest fixes for ad fatigue. Our TikTok ads management team handles creator codes and launch dates, and the Meta ads for e-commerce guide covers the Meta side.
